Hot Hours For Staff To Do Online Ministry

To fork out 2-4 hours a week to do online ministry is perhaps the most mind-blowing initiative for the Campus Ministry.

Questions like

  • “We are already online, so why do we need hot hours for online ministry?”
  • “Does being sitting in one corner of the campus and chatting with disciples online  via MSN or Skype substantiates the usage of hot hours?”
  • “Hot hours are the times when students are most available. Shouldn’t we use that time to meet up with students instead of meeting them online?”

The Campus Leadership Team will address the above questions soon after we got the guidelines from Egypt CCC how their staff use hot hours for online and offline ministry. But for now, I like to clarify what I think the hot hours are about.

Allow me to use the acronym “TEA” to temporarily replace hot hours for online ministry. The TEA time would be:

  1. T – Training
    • It’s legitimate to use 1-2 hour a week just to learn how to use social media and TOM facebook applications.
    • You can use the Hot Hours to learn to use Twitter, Facebook, Skype or other online tools for enhancing your ministry effectiveness
    • There will be more short videos and articles via this blog or emails to  you to learn to integrate VLM into your daily ministry.
  2. E – Experimentation
    • Hopefully by start of April, all of us will learn to reply emails from EveryStudent.com or from GMO websites.
    • Each staff may be limited to receive 1 email a week.
  3. A – Assessment
    • The time frame is 6 months starting from April, and we will evaluate if we have adapted to using the Hot Hours for online ministry.

These are some of the initial thoughts of the CLT regarding the TEA time, and I hope you can give me feedback and questions about the TEA time as we progress on from here.
