Why Do Online Recruitment Strategy?

After skyping with *Tony O’Hagan from Australia, I gathered from him three compelling reasons why Australia CCC started the online survey to recruit freshmen since 2005:

  1. Lack of finance
  2. Lack of manpower
  3. Unable  to set up ministry booths during orientation week

Not all campus ministries benefitted from doing this strategy. But one thing is for sure, there’s nothing to lose from trying out this strategy either.

So how can doing online recruitment profit the local campus ministries?

Here are 4 main reasons how doing online survey benefits the local ministry:

  1. It complements the local recruitment strategies (whatever they are). This means that you can still do online survey without compromising your local recruitment strategies.
  2. It acts as a filter to sift out ready Christians and interested pre-believers who want to join the local ministry.
  3. It’s less babour-intensive i.e. staff and students can be freed up to focus on calling up and building intentional relationship with the freshmen.
  4. It is cost effective.

The urgent thing I’m looking into now is to get ready a customized site and survey for the polytechnic ministries as the freshmen are coming in 6 weeks time.

Do pray for quick hands and successful experimentation of the online surveys I’m going to create. But I still need you (the team leaders or the recruitment staff I/C) to factor this strategy into your overall recruitment strategy.

*Tony is a volunteer of Australia CCC who has been formulating the online survey strategy for Australia campus ministry since 2005.

  1. Agreed:) I’m all excited about this online survey.

  2. Thanks! I hope to start on it soon.
After looking at Australia CCC survey site, they put in many contents like privacy policy and the details on how to get the price. Thanks to them, I can just replicate their contents and customize to our needs :)

  3. I think that online recruitment should complement and not replace physical recruitment(Unless there is really no manpower or resources)

Firstly to create awareness of the ministry (How will freshmen know the CCA exists? And more visibility is always better)
Secondly to create awareness of the survey site and prizes (to inform students and create traffic)
Thirdly to cater to the non-IT savy students(although I would think Singaporeans are quite savy)

Just a thought. Instead of going around with pen and paper surveys, imagine crusaders going around campus asking freshmen to do the online survey on tablets or netbooks.
This would help us to tap on the advantages of online survey (which is less time to key in the data and collate the results)
We just need a wifi covered campus and netbooks/tablets or laptops which will come from the crusaders.

    • Hi Josiah!
Yes you are right in saying that online recruitment should complement the recruitment strategy. I like your idea of getting staff and students going around with laptops or netbooks for people to do the survey on the spot. If the iPad is here, I would prefer the survey to be done with iPad because it’s more cool and mobile
